Rafael Correa assures that Belgium considers him a “political persecuted”

The former president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, assured that Belgium recognized his status as “politically persecuted” by granting him asylum, a situation that, in the opinion of the former president, is a “slap in the face” to the judicial system and the current Ecuadorian government.

“The Geneva Convention is very restrictive and among the grounds for granting asylum is political persecution: (Belgium) is recognizing that we are politically persecuted, that we are not corrupt, that the criminals have always been them,” Correa told the station. Argentine Radio 10.

Belgium granted political asylum to Correa, as confirmed to Efe this week by the former president’s lawyer, Christophe Marchand.

President of Ukraine denounces concentration camps

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denounced that Russian forces are holding Ukrainian citizens in concentration camps, from where they are sent to Siberia and Russia’s Far East.

“Russia continues to support the activities of the so-called filtration camps, including near Mariupol. Although the proper name is really different: they are concentration camps. Like those that the Nazis also built at the time », he said last night in his daily video message.

He added that “Ukrainians from these camps – the survivors – are sent to occupied territory and to Russia. Facts of deportation of our citizens to the interior of Russia, to Siberia, even to Vladivostok have been registered », he denounced.

“They also deport children in the hope that they will forget where their home is, where they are from. And they are from Ukraine », she stressed.
