Airstrike in Ukraine killed a girl and injured 22
An airstrike on a residential district in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro killed a two-year-old girl and wounded 22 others, authorities said Sunday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky blamed Russia for the attack, which a local governor said partly destroyed two two-story buildings. Also 10 private houses, a store and a gas pipeline.
Russian shelling of Ukraine has intensified in recent weeks, as have raids by kyiv troops in the opposite direction.
Ukraine has spent months preparing a major counteroffensive to regain ground lost since the Russian invasion that began in February 2022.
Armed attack in Ecuador left five dead
At least five people died and another eight were injured this Sunday when three men opened fire inside a house in Guayaquil, one of the cities hardest hit by crime and drug trafficking in Ecuador, police reported.
“So far we have five people dead and eight people injured, who are in different health centers in the city,” police colonel Fabary Montalvo told the press.
One of the deceased, Montalvo explained, is a police officer who received several bullet wounds to the head. The bodies of a man and a woman were found outside the house where, according to local media, a party was being held.
Government of Peru extended state of emergency in southern region
The Government of Peru extended the state of emergency in the southern region of Puno for another 60 days. This is so that the armed forces direct the control of internal order in that jurisdiction.
The officers would do so with the support of the National Police, in accordance with a supreme decree published this Sunday.
Puno, a southern region bordering Bolivia, was where violent clashes with law enforcement took place in anti-government protests earlier this year. The same ones that kept roads and highways blocked for longer.
