FAO: World hunger remains at high levels for third consecutive year
Hunger levels remained worryingly high in 2023 for the third consecutive year, with around 733 million people chronically undernourished worldwide, according to a report released Wednesday by five United Nations agencies, EFE reported.
The report on “The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World”, presented in Rio de Janeiro, coinciding with the G20 ministerial meetings, shows an alarming global scenario in which one in eleven people went hungry last year.
Hunger continues to increase in Africa, where 20.4% of the population suffers from it, it is stabilising in Asia (8.1%) and is making progress in Latin America (6.2%), except in the Caribbean region.
Chilean authorities dismantle a Tren de Aragua cell in the south of the country
A Chilean civil police operation dismantled a cell of the international criminal organization known as the Tren de Aragua that operated in the Los Lagos region, about 1,000 kilometers south of Santiago, and was dedicated to the execution of multiple crimes, authorities reported on Tuesday.
Detectives from the Puerto Montt Robbery Brigade of the Investigative Police (PDI) managed to arrest 10 people and seize drugs and ammunition of various calibers, as well as four firearms, including an automatic submachine gun.
Following an investigation launched since last May, the PDI determined that crimes such as robbery with intimidation, robbery with violence, attempted homicide, drug trafficking, violation of the Weapons Law and threats were committed in the area, all allegedly carried out by the same organized criminal structure.
