Iran calls for ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, but warns “to be prepared for any option”

Iran continues to call for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, but is “prepared for all options” vis-à-vis Israel, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said this Saturday, October 19, during a visit to Istanbul.

“We are facing the serious probability of a large-scale war, and no one except the Zionist regime wants that war,” Araqchí said at a press conference along with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan.

«The expansion of war in the region is a serious threat. “We are in favor of peace, but we are prepared for all options,” added the Iranian minister, according to the Turkish Anadolu agency.

Araqchí arrived in Istanbul on Friday to participate in the Caucasus 3+3 Platform, a forum in which the foreign ministers of Russia, Turkey, Iran, Armenia and Azerbaijan meet, and today he had a bilateral meeting with Fidan, reported the agency EFE.

He accused Israel of “committing war crimes without limit” and assured that “no country in the region, starting with Iran and Türkiye, can accept that this continues. “We support an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon,” Araqchí said.

Fidan also warned at the press conference that “the risk of the war expanding throughout the region should not be taken lightly.”

«We are in the middle of a global tension that can have very serious repercussions on a global level. Countries in the region and outside actors must refrain from taking irreversible steps. Türkiye does not want a war in the region. “We defend a prudent and cold-blooded attitude,” said the Turkish minister.

In an interview with a Turkish channel on Thursday, Fidan had warned that he “would not support Iran in any way” if this country “initiated a combat that turned into war” with Israel, but recognized its “right to self-defense.”
