Consumers with credit card debts, overdrafts, payroll loans and other types of credit in arrears with banks or finance companies can participate in the Negotiation and Financial Guidance Task Force. The campaign runs until March 31 and is an initiative of the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), with the support of the National Consumer Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (Senacon/MJSP). The mutirão does not include debts that have assets pledged as collateral (such as vehicles, motorcycles and real estate).
“Considering the indebtedness situation throughout Brazil, we believe that this type of initiative, the mutirões, is extremely important, as it offers consumers the opportunity to renegotiate their debts and balance their finances”, said the director of the Department of Protection and Consumer Defense at Senacon, Ricardo Blattes.
The National Consumer Secretary, Wadih Damous, warns that attention is needed to prevent a debt from becoming perpetual: “the portion of over-indebted Brazilian consumers is considerable and the mutirões have provided opportunities for negotiations that benefit consumers. However, Senacon is vigilant to the negotiation practices that are characterized at the counter for new hires, resulting in the perpetuation of debts.
discounts
Negotiations can be made directly with the portal consumer.gov.brfrom Senacon, which the consumer accesses through a Gov.br silver or gold account, or with a bank or financial institution.
During the campaign, which also has the support of the state Procons and the Central Bank, discounts and special debt payment deadlines will be offered, at the discretion of each institution, which defines the rules and conditions to be offered.
At page about the National Mutirãothere are videos showing step by step how to access the portal, find the institution and open the trading request.
In the last joint effort, held in November last year, more than 2.3 million contracts were renegotiated by banks, bringing immediate financial relief to debtors.
over-indebted
If the consumer is heavily indebted, that is, unable to pay off and maintain his livelihood or that of his family, the orientation is to look for the nearest Procon and ask for guidance. Mutirão is not recommended for consumers protected by the Over-Indebtedness Law.
Step by step of the mutirão:
1 – When accessing the Registrato platformfrom the Central Bank, consumers can consult existing loans and financing in their name and other information about their relationship with financial institutions, such as checking accounts, investments and Pix keys, for example, free of charge.
2 – The consumer can use one of the free spreadsheets available on portal My Daily Pocket to discover the amount you can count on to pay your debts. The tables are already ready, with the calculation formulas done. Simply enter cash inflows and outflows to get an overview of your finances.
3 – When negotiating with the creditor institution, the interested consumer must inform the debt he intends to settle and ask what are the conditions offered for its settlement. If you agree with the proposal, a negotiation agreement will be signed. If you do not agree, the consumer can make counterproposals to reach an agreement that fits in your pocket.
