Final week for church tax

Final week for church tax

The initiative that seeks to tax churches with a 20% income tax has a new litmus test this week. After being approved in the first debatethe project will be taken to the third committees of the Chamber and Senate for analysis and processing in the Congress of the Republic.

(Churches would pay 20% income tax with the tax).

The proposal, presented by the Representative to the Chamber, Katherine Miranda, proposes that the churches pay taxes and special treatment be eliminated unless, as the text indicates, they are “recognized by the Ministry of the Interior or by law, with respect to income from activities associated with religious work, worship, rites, practices that promote attachment to religious sentiments in the social body, or educational activities or charity”.

(Catholic Church asks the Government and protesters to stop being arrogant).

In Colombia, according to the direction of Religious Affairs of the Ministry of the Interior, there are about 10,000 churches in the country of all cults.

The possibility of taxing churches had been the subject of discussion in the tax reforms of several governments, but only until now has a proposal been included in a project.
