The Spanish filmmaker Carlos Saura passed away this Friday at the age of 91 in Madrid, one day before receiving an honorary Goya at the awards ceremony of the film academyfrom where his death has been confirmed.

Born in 1932, in Huesca, Saura is the author of mythical films of Spanish cinema such as The hunt, Cousin Angelica, Breeding ravens and Ay Carmela.
From Twitter, the Academy highlights that its latest filmthe walls speakpremiered last Friday, as “a sample of his tireless activity and his love for the trade until the last moment.”
Several press agencies recall that Saura was frequently quoted among the greats of Spanish cinema, along with Luis Buñuel and Pedro Almodóvar.
He directed fifty films throughout a career, during which he was awarded numerous awards.
At the beginning, he focused on the ills of society and its losers, and then, from the 1980s, he mainly produced musical feature films, such as his celebrated flamenco trilogy Blood Wedding (1981), Carmen (1983) and The love wizard (1986), together with bailaor Antonio Gades.
