The film tells the story of the contortionist Georgia Bergamim, sexually abused by the stepfather from 8 to 11 years old.
The title of the feature is inspired by the excerpt of the “Learning or the Book of Pleasures” by Clarice Lispector. In the book, the author discusses the need to move on. “One of the things I learned is that one should live despite. Although it should be eaten. Although, you should love yourself. Although it should die. It is often often even though it pushes us forward. ”
Georgia, now 33, says she recognized her condition of victim of violence after listening to a shared account in a conversation wheel ten years ago. “I never felt all the way in places, with people. I always felt that thing, a silence, which was a giant weight,” he says.
In this wheel, a very strong trigger came to me and I decided that I had to dim that to heal. I didn’t want to be hiding under the carpet anymore, “he explains.
The sense of constant displacement ended up being loving as she was narrating her own experiences. First, for closer people, until you reach public sharing on the internet. In the movie, she points out that circus art changed her relationship with the world. “I see contortion as the height of body control.”
One of the scenes of “Although”, shows the contortionist recording a video for the social networks in which she questions: “Every hour, two children under 13 are sexually abused in Brazil. What are we going to do with it? ”
The acceptance of the invitation to run the film was related to the way Georgia understands that she should react. “It’s like feeling that I can collaborate a little with combat, fight and be a kind of inspiration for people to break silence.”
Director Beatriz Prates recalls that she met Georgia through the film’s executive producer, Luciana Festi. As a raw material of the documentary, Beatriz brought together several photos, videos and writings of Georgia, who, according to her, show as the violence to which she was repeatedly subjected changed even her expression on her face. “There are several videos of birthdays, from 8 to 11 years old. You can feel, watching the documentary, how the abuse is changing the life of that child, the way to speak. It’s very visual, you can see,” he says.
For the director, it is necessary to commit everyone in the education and protection of children and adolescents, which includes guiding them about sexual violence, so that they can be able to discern abuse and denounce it if they see each other before someone that tries to practice them.
The production was carried out with the support of Brazilian Cinematheque. The sources of financing are the Beja Institute and Daniel Law. The documentary also had the institutional support of organizations such as Childhood Brasil, Liberta Institute and the end of the end of violence against children and adolescents.

“Although” has been selected for the 8th edition of the Mujerdoc International Documentary Festival, which will take place in the city of Soria, Spain, from March 9, even before debut in Brazil. The festival, promoted by the NGO Women of the World, highlights productions that address gender issues and the role of women in society. The documentary was also exhibited at the “Bread and Roses” festivals in the United States and Cinefem in Uruguay.
