The movie Yuliinspired by the life of Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta, was screened today in Lebanon.
Winner of the Best Screenplay Award at the San Sebastian International Film Festival (2018), the film showed the childhood and adolescence of the Cuban star of international ballet to the local public during almost two hours of projection.
The film, directed by the Catalan Iciar Bollaín, reflects Acosta’s life in Cuba, marked by material shortages, family vicissitudes and problems of a marginal environment.
And he elaborates on the relationship of the first dancer of the London Royal Ballet with his father, who baptized him with the nickname that gives the film its title.
It has a cast led by Acosta himself, along with Santiago Alfonso, Laura de la Uz, Yerlín Pérez, Kevin Martínez and the boy Edilson Manuel Olbera, among other actors.
Organized by the Cervantes Institute in Beirut, the film presentation is part of the cultural billboard in the context of Spain’s national holiday on October 12.
