Coach Filipe Luís stated, after winning the Copa Libertadores with the Flamengo team, with a 1-0 victory over Palmeiras this Saturday (29) at the Monumental de U Stadium, in Lima (Peru), that he always believed he could take Rubro-Negro to their fourth title in the continental competition.
“Did I expect it? Of course I expected it, because I always thought big, I always thought about achieving big things. Flamengo doesn’t have to be grateful to me, because Flamengo gives me this opportunity due to its quality, investment and organization. I feel privileged”, declared the commander of the Gávea team in a press conference.
For Filipe Luís, he is part of a group [como jogador e técnico] who is writing a beautiful page in the club’s history, full of important achievements, such as three editions of the Copa Libertadores: “Before arriving here, Flamengo had one Libertadores final. Now they have five finals and four titles, and will continue to win without Filipe, without Arrascaeta, without Bruno Henrique. I am sure that our time here has been very valuable. We are leaving a much better club than we found it. That makes me very proud.”
At the press conference, the Flamengo coach stated that, after the great celebration that the fans had last Wednesday (26) when the team embarked for Lima, he is looking forward to meeting the fans again in Rio de Janeiro to celebrate the continental title: “I wish this affection from the fans to the players, because they deserve it. They worked hard and I wish that we live this moment of joy. May Flamengo fans see this wonderful trophy and that it continues to increase. According to the [ex-jogador] Zico, the fan is Flamengo’s heritage.”
