Figures that contribute

Figures that contribute

This is the position of the candidate for Mayor, Christian Morel for Carnival

The old debate that takes place every January about whether Uruguayan and Argentine entertainment figures should or should not be hired to participate in the Melo Carnival has moved to the political environment and will surely be positioned as one of the topics of the next electoral campaign. .

The current Mayor of the Municipality of Río Branco and candidate to occupy the Departmental Executive said that only figures who contribute something to the most important party that the capital of Cerro Largo should be used should be used.

“With any area of the Municipality, on July 15 when I take office, if this department gives me the opportunity, the first thing I plan to do is see the reality,” he expressed. “Yes, reality shows that what has been done in the latter generates a monstrous deficit that later ends up having repercussions on street works, on cleaning works, on a public entertainment policy that is flat. If a whole week of carnival has repercussions throughout the year, we have to put everything back together,” said Christian Morel in an interview with EL PROFESIONAL Diario.

He added that the first action will be a meeting with all the people who know about the subject, with those who understand carnival in the city of Melo. “If this is not the optics and it has to be changed, I am not going to be too lazy to change it,” he said. “I am convinced that the carnival must and needs a change of direction,” emphasized the leader of list 93 of the National Party.

“We are going to work on this change of course from day one because I cannot say that public activities, open to everyone, are not something that interests me,” said the current Mayor of the Municipality of Río Branco, local government. which has been characterized precisely by the performance of artistic-musical shows in open spaces with no entry cost for attendees. “I can’t say that because I wouldn’t be telling the truth because I have the city that has the most activities,” he added.

“In Río Branco we have activities all year round, specifically 5 festivals per year” he listed.

“If a single activity puts an entire department in debt as many say, I think they are doing it wrong,” he considered. “If we reach the Municipality, we will have to change that. There is a vox populi among people who want a change in the layout of the carnival. That’s what I want to work on and I want to do it from day one,” he reiterated. “From July 15, 2025, I want to focus on working on the issue,” he promised.

DO NOT HIRE FIGURES THAT CONTRIBUTE NOTHING TO THE PARTY

He flatly denied that he is against the Melo carnival. “Quite the opposite, I want there to be a carnival, what I don’t want is to put the Municipality in debt at the expense of a week of carnival and much less do I want to bring in figures that don’t contribute anything like certain figures that for me, humbly, don’t contribute anything to which is the essence of that party,” he said.

“I do not agree under any circumstances to bringing a person from national journalism to parade 6 blocks and charge us a fortune,” stressed Christian Morel. “Maybe it doesn’t cost what people say and if it doesn’t cost what people say we won’t bring it. There are things that, no, that for me are wrong and that we must correct,” he insisted.

“I want to bet a lot on the Cerro Largo carnival fans,” he said. “There they say that people don’t go when that’s not the case, people go. In Río Branco we have had the capacity to put up to 7,000 people in a city of 20,000 inhabitants in different activities,” he revealed. “How are the people of Melo not going to go, how are they not going to go because certain national figures that I do not want to name do not come. “People are the same,” said the candidate for the Municipality of Cerro Largo optimistically.

“My goal is to further strengthen the Cerro Largo Groups and obviously also bring shows from outside,” he said. “When I organize a show in the city of Río Branco I don’t only do it with artists from Cerro Largo. A base of 60% or 70% is from the department, but we also hire artists from outside. In the carnival the same: 60% or 70% of the budget must be invested in Cerro Largo and the remaining 20% or 30% for figures from outside but who leave something for the carnival and not simply come to ride on top of a truck and say hello, wishing it was over because I want to take it home,” he concluded.
