The consulting firm Cifra released on Tuesday its latest survey on the intention to vote for the referendum on 135 articles of the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC).

The survey, broadcast by Telemundo, indicated that 45% of the population would be willing to uphold the law (voting No), while 33% would seek to repeal the articles (voting Yes).

Cifra reported that the consultation was by telephone (landline and cell phone) nationwide and 809 people were interviewed between February 10 and 17, 2022.

He explained that a fifth of Uruguayans over the age of 18 eligible to vote have not heard of the LUC, while almost four out of 10 have heard something about it and the same number consider themselves well informed.

He clarified that “although the majority of the electorate recognizes that they have little information about what will be voted on in the referendum, four out of five already have a position taken on what they will vote for.” There, he stated that 45% of those consulted would be willing to maintain the 135 articles questioned, while 33% would be inclined to repeal them.

He added that 20% do not know what position they will take in the referendum, 1% would vote blank and another 1% would annul their vote.
