San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chis., Agents from the three levels of government put 15 Guatemalan migrants under protection and arrested three alleged human traffickers during the search of a safe house located in the municipality of Cacahoatán, located on the border with Guatemala, reported police sources.

They explained that the operation was carried out after an anonymous telephone call, which indicated a property located on eighth Calle Poniente between Segunda and Cuarta Sur, in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood, of said municipality.

They specified that agents from the Immigrants Prosecutor’s Office, from the state preventive and municipal police of Cacahoatán and from the National Institute of Migration, as well as elements from the Secretary of National Defense, guarded four men, four women and seven minors.

They stated that, in addition, the uniformed officers detained three women of Mexican nationality, who were in charge of guarding the foreigners and preparing food for them.

The sources said that a .22 caliber rifle and a 9-mm pistol were found in one of the rooms of the house, which together with the detainees were placed at the disposal of an agent of the Federal Public Ministry.
