The FIFA has imposed on Botafogo Brazilian a sanction of three transfer periods without being able to make hires due to the Argentine case Thiago Almadawho now plays for Atlético de Madrid, although the Brazilian club has assured that it is in talks with Atlanta United to resolve the case.
In a message published by the Rio de Janeiro club, it reports that “in recent weeks, it has held constructive conversations with representatives of Atlanta United, of the MLS, to seek an agreement in relation to the case of Thiago Almada” after the American club claimed that it had not received part of the amount agreed upon in the transfer.

“The talks were suspended due to the end-of-year break and will resume soon. Botafogo hopes to resolve the matter before or at the start of the transfer market. The club will be very active in recruiting players in January 2026,” assures the Brazilian entity.
Thiago Almada joined Botafogo from Atlanta United in 2024 and in January 2025 he joined French side Olympique Lyon on loan. After finishing the loan, in June of that year, he was transferred to Atlético de Madrid.
