Students who wish to apply for financing for higher education fees at a private college can register with the Student Financing Fund (Fies) for the first semester of 2026, until 11:59 pm this Friday (6), Brasília time.
The Ministry of Education (MEC) program offers financing for students to pursue higher education in private institutions that have joined the program and have a positive evaluation in the National Higher Education Assessment System (Sinaes).
Enrollment
Free registration must be done exclusively by the Single Portal for Access to Higher Education with login to the platform Gov.br. You must also provide a valid personal email address.
Candidates can enroll in up to three course options and change their choices until the end of the registration period. The MEC clarifies that pre-selection will be for only one of the course options, shift, location of offering and higher education institution.
When registering for the Fies selection process for the first semester of 2026, the candidate must inform their profile (ethnicity/color, whether or not they are quilombola, whether or not they are a person with a disability, whether or not they have completed higher education).

Vacancies
The Ministry of Education (MEC) will offer more than 112,168 places for financing in 2026, 67,301 places for the first semester, in 1,421 universities, colleges and university centers, for 19,834 courses.
Any vacancies that may not be filled in this edition will be offered in the second semester.
Who can register
Candidates who participated in the National High School Exam (Enem) from the 2010 edition onwards will be able to enroll in Fies, as long as they have obtained an arithmetic average of grades in the five tests equal to or greater than 450 points and have not completed the writing test to zero.
It is also necessary to have a gross monthly family income per person of up to three minimum wages (R$4,863, in 2026).
In the case of vacancies intended for people with disabilities (PWD), candidates must prove their situation through a medical report, with the corresponding International Classification of Diseases (ICD) code.
Classification
Classification in the Fies selection process will be carried out in descending order of the grades obtained by candidates in Enem, by type of vacancy, preference group and type of competition. Priority will still be given to candidates who:
- did not complete higher education and did not benefit from student financing;
- did not complete higher education, benefited from student financing and paid it off;
- completed higher education and did not benefit from student financing;
- completed higher education, benefited from student financing and have paid it off.
Fies Social
The Fies selection process includes reserving 50% of places for students with a family income per person of up to half a minimum wage (R$810.50, in 2026) and with active registration in the federal government’s Single Registry of Social Programs (CadÚnico).
Those pre-selected who comply with Fies Social rules will be able to request full financing, with coverage of up to 100% of educational costs.
If the Permanent Supervision and Monitoring Committee (CPSA) of the private higher education institution identifies a discrepancy in the declared family income, the presentation of additional documentation may be required to prove it.
Result
According to the Fies noticethe pre-selection result in the single call will be announced on February 19th.
Pre-selected students must access Fies Seleção to complete their registration between the 20th and 24th of February.
Waiting list
Students who are not pre-selected in the single call will automatically be on the waiting list to fill unoccupied places, subject to the order of classification.
Pre-selection on the waiting list will take place from February 26th to April 10th.
