Fidelist devotees already need miracles

HAVANA, Cuba.- In recent years, I have heard many people who were staunch supporters of the regime until not long ago, confess that they are disenchanted and that “this it is no longer the revolution of Fidel.”

Disappointed – as their idolized Commander would call them – to strength of hunger and blackouts, they never tire of repeating, given the disastrous situation that Cuba is experiencing after the failure of the economic reorganization initiated by the regime in the middle of the pandemic, that “with Fidel these things did not happen.”

Even so, for not giving in when he recognized that consecrated to a failed cause, they continue looking for justifications for the failures and blaming everything on the North American blockade.

They want the current leadership to “shake the bush,” as decades ago they thought it was necessary for Fidel Castro to do, who, they assumed, was unaware of what was wrong in the country, and when he found out, he immediately solved it.

The “achievements”

Those devout Fidelistas, usually elderlythey do not fully understand that if “these things” did not happen – there were always shortages and blackouts, but not like today – in the times of Fidel Castro, it was not so much because the Commander was more intelligent and capable than his successors, but because during For the 47 years that he governed, he lived attached to the Soviet breast first and then to that of the Hugo Chávez regime, which made it possible for him to carry out what he called “the achievements of the revolution” and even finance delirious pharaonic endeavors.

Of the “achievements of the revolution”, today only rubble remains, as evidenced by the increasingly poor health and education, due to the blatantly petty state capitalism of oligarch cronies established by the continuity regime.

Those who govern today are the continuity of the model that Fidel Castro designed. Today we splash and drown in the mud brought by the downpours of the regime established in 1959.

The successors collected the results of the dictator’s absurdities such as the Revolutionary Offensive of 1968 and the dismantling of dozens of sugar mills, to name just two of the most damaging.

Nor how to amend it…

Clinging to power, refusing reforms for fear of losing it, they do not know how to amend the disasters they inherited without detaching themselves from “Fidel’s legacy,” although they continually, no matter how much they exalt it, contradict it.

Díaz-Canel and his ministers, with their disconnection from reality and their triumphalist slogans, have proven to be the most inept and disastrous government team in the history of Cuba. But even if they were luminaries, they will be able to do nothing to get Cuba out of the quagmire as long as they remain stubborn and arrogant, clinging to the same methods of the single party and the economy planned by a monopolistic and bureaucratic State that turns its back on the realities of the market, the economy. and human nature.

Marxist-Leninist socialism, from 1917 to today, has not worked in any country where it was implemented. Even so, there are still those who refuse to accept that reality and believe that Cuban socialism, modeled on the Soviet one with slight variations, can be perfected.

What remains of “Fidel’s revolution”

A few days ago, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla assured the magazine Newsweek that the government he represents has “a majority social consensus.” But the bosses know that it is not true.

The regime only has the support of an elite of privileged piranhas. And also of the increasingly rare elderly people who, despite their hardships, out of inertia, out of habit, because they cannot conceive of any other life than the one they knew, say they defend what is left of “Fidel’s revolution.”

Only his faith, which was unshakable, now requires miracles. And the bosses of continuity, who are not even capable of guaranteeing the supply of water to the population, are they going to be able to turn it into wine?
