"Fico" Gutiérrez denounces infiltration of his campaign with a Venezuelan and points to Petro

The complaint made this Saturday the 7th by the presidential candidate Federico Gutiérrez has unleashed mutual accusations with his rival and favorite to win, according to the polls, Gustavo Petro. Both will be measured in the first round on May 29 by the Colombian Presidency. Gutiérrez warned of a “Trojan horse” strategy

Luis Felipe Henao, head of debate for the Team for Colombia, political platform for Federico “Fico” Gutiérrez’s candidacy for the presidency of that country, this Saturday, May 7, extended accusations against the rival candidate, Gustavo Petro and his team, for developing surveillance, infiltrations and threats against the representative of the Conservative Party and other right-wing groups.

Among these accusations, Henao spoke of a Venezuelan, supposedly close to the military and the government of Nicolás Maduro, who tried to infiltrate the candidate’s team. Gutiérrez’s spokesman said that on a tour in Cúcuta this person wanted to be photographed with the former mayor of Medellín and second in the electoral options, according to the polls, with the purpose of later appearing threatening the ruling Maduro and thus seeking to link Gutiérrez with armed irregular groups.

Henao said that he has indications that the Venezuelan government wants to benefit Gustavo Petro.

“The presence of the Venezuelan citizen Michael Colmenares, who has maintained or maintains links with illegal armed structures based in Colombia and in possible relationship with Venezuela, has been detected in the Fico Presidente campaign. This operation, with all the characteristics of a ‘Trojan horse’, could be part of another action where ‘all forms of struggle’ are combined to tarnish the candidate’s name,” the campaign said in a statement.

The accusation, which is not the first made by Gutiérrez’s team against Petro’s, provoked the reaction of those who have the first chance of victory, according to the polls.

“What was sought was to link this campaign with illegal acts, which has been Petro’s strategy to harm Gutiérrez,” said Henao.

“We want to make this information with its evidence available to the Attorney General’s Office and alert all Colombian citizens that we are facing a great dirty threat,” they added.

Luis Felipe Henao added that “it seems suspicious to the campaign that, a few days before the elections, and after learning of the confession by the legal adviser of Gustavo Petro’s campaign, Miguel Ángel del Río, of having infiltrated our campaign, added to the visits of the candidate’s brother, Juan Fernando Petro, and his elected senator Piedad Córdoba to La Picota prison to meet with drug traffickers, parapoliticians, corrupt people, among others; this Mr. Colmenares has been trying to enter the management cadres of the Fico Presidente Campaign».
