What is the FGTS birthday withdrawal?
Created in 2020, the birthday withdrawal allows workers to withdraw part of their FGTS balance every year, in their birthday month.
Membership is optional and can be done:
- Through the FGTS application;
- Caixa Econômica Federal branches.
Difference between birthday withdrawal and termination withdrawal
- Withdrawal-termination: standard model. In case of unfair dismissal, the worker can withdraw the entire FGTS balance, in addition to the termination fine.
- Birthday withdrawal: allows annual withdrawals, but, if there is unfair dismissal, the worker only receives a 40% fine, being prevented from withdrawing the total balance of the account.
How much can I receive in my birthday withdrawal?
The amount depends on the total balance in the FGTS accounts and follows a progressive table. The rate varies from 5% to 50%, with a fixed additional installment.

I was fired. How is the FGTS?
- Those who are on the birthday withdrawal: can only withdraw the termination fine. The remaining balance is for the next annual withdrawals.
- Those who are on withdrawal-termination: can withdraw the full amount of the FGTS, if the dismissal is without just cause.
Even if the worker requests a return to withdrawal, the change only takes effect after a two-year grace period. If the dismissal occurs during the anniversary withdrawal period, the rule of this modality will be applied, with only the termination fine being removed.
One provisional measure issued at the end of last year authorized a special round of birthday withdrawals for workers dismissed without just cause from January 1, 2020 to December 23, 2025. The remaining balance of these employees will be paid only once in two rounds. The first on December 29th and the second between February 2nd and 12th.
