The General Prosecutor of the Republic (FGR) decided not to bring criminal action against Pio Lopez Obradorbrother of the current President of the Republic, as well as who was the national coordinator of Civil Protection, David Leonfor the exchange of bundles of money they made in 2015, and which was evidenced in a video.
“The non-exercise of criminal action is determined in the investigation folder in which it is acted for the facts denounced against the accused Pío López Obrador and David Eduardo León Romero, upon updating the cause of dismissal indicated in section II of article 327 of the National Code of Criminal Procedure”, the FGR referred.
The brother of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador argued that the protection that promoted against the investigation initiated by the FGR, “it is not to ask that the investigation against me be archived, quite the contrary. The MP is asked to resolve because it has not investigated in a year, “he said.
And it is that on April 20 of this year, the minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Yasmin Esquivel Mossa, granted a suspension to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) so that it would not deliver to the National Electoral Institute (INE), as ordered by the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation, the investigation folders on Pío López Obrador.
Despite the closure of the FGR investigation, on October 6 of this year, the Superior Chamber of the TEPJF denied a request for Pio Lopez Obrador for the National Electoral Institute to conclude the investigation against him, for which he validated that the INE Oversight Commission continue the investigations due to the appearance of a video where he is observed receiving bundles of money from David León in 2015.
Last year, a media outlet broadcast a video where Pío López Obrador was seen receiving bundles of money in a yellow envelope from David León. The event would have occurred in 2015 when federal political campaigns were underway.
On this matter, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador ruled since 2021 so that his brother be investigated by the competent authorities and, if there are elements, punish him.
“What happened to my brother has already become very clear that I do not protect anyone. I came here to lead a transformation, to do it with all the people, that’s why millions of Mexicans gave me their trust and I’m not going to betray them. If my brother is responsible, let him be punished. I do not establish relationships of complicity with anyone, not even with members of my family”, he stated.
