In the Peruvian beauty market, not everything is pretty right now. Hairdressers and salonsfor example, have not yet managed to recover from the economic impact caused by the pandemic.
The president of the Peruvian Association of Beauty Entrepreneurs (APEB), Rebeca Antezana, stated that visits to these spaces are lower than they were in 2019. “Before, there were people who visited the salon twice a week. Now they do it once a month and that is because their economy is hit, ”she said.
What’s more, in December of the years prior to the health crisis, visits were more frequent and a person could attend up to six times in those 31 days, but today the situation is different and this time of year lacks a bit of makeup, ” it seems like any other month”.
The fall in the frequency of attendance at these premises is not the only problem presented by this sector that urgently needs a cut, but in expenses. The acts of violence that are experienced in the country also affect them. The APEB representative assured that these situations cause people to prefer not to leave their homes.
“All this social and political problem harms the development of our sector and destroys what little progress we are making,” he added.
Likewise, he called on the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and Congress to reduce the IGV for a while, as has happened with other sectors.

Although they, unlike other brands, did not close any premises due to the pandemic, Maraví revealed that in some spaces they did change the format they had.
For next year they hope to open in Chimbote and Huancayo. They are also interested in the jungle, although they already have a presence in Tarapoto; This area is attractive to enter as a franchise.
“We arrived in the interior of the country with a franchise format,” said the company’s representative. It should be noted that the company has a presence, in addition to Lima and Tarapoto, in Trujillo, Chiclayo, Piura, Cusco, Arequipa, Ica, Huacho and Barranca.
The group is also venturing into Colombia and is in talks with other countries, such as Ecuador and Chile, where it will arrive first as an institute and then as a beauty salon.
