Festival to celebrate reopening of the Ipiranga Museum

Closed since 2013 for restoration, the Museu Paulista, better known as the Museu do Ipiranga, will reopen to the public on September 8th as part of the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the Independence of Brazil.Festival to celebrate reopening of the Ipiranga Museum

To celebrate the reopening, the São Paulo Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy and the São Paulo City Hall will present a special cultural program, between the 7th and 11th of September. Attractions include music, dance, theater and circus and will be broadcast on the streaming and video on demand #Culture at home.

Among the highlights is a show of the singers Almir Sater and his son, Gabriel Sater, who recently participated in the soap opera wetland.

The festivities begin today (4th) with a projection on the facade of the Ipiranga Museum, which will be accompanied by a soundtrack by André Abujamra. The projection will be divided into eight acts of one minute each. Each minute will tell a part of the cultural and artistic history of the last two centuries. Among them, episodes related to indigenous art, the presence of black people in the country and the Modern Art Week. This projection will be held between September 4th and 11th, from 6:30 pm to 10 pm. On September 7, the projection will be made between 21:00 and 22:00.

The museum

With 11 new exhibitions, the Ipiranga Museum will reopen exclusively to authorities on September 6, between 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm. The following day, a public holiday on September 7, the museum will open only to schools and workers who helped with the restoration works and their families. The public will be able to visit it from the 8th of September.

On the holiday of September 7, there will be a special program starting with the traditional September 7 parade, which this year will be held on Avenida D. Pedro I. The parade starts at 9 am and will feature the participation of the Esquadrilha Smoke.

In addition to the parade, a staging about the Grito da Independência will be held at 3 pm, with the participation of actor Caco Ciocler as D. Pedro I.

In the evening, there will be a show of music, dance and visual arts. One of the highlights is the presentation of a show with 200 drones, which is scheduled for 9 pm.

Between the 8th of September and the 11th of September, the festival also promotes shows musicals, in partnership with the city of São Paulo. On the night of the 8th, there will be a performance by SP Companhia de Dança, SP Big Band and Orquestra Jazz Sinfônica, starting at 6 pm. On September 9, from 7 pm, Almir and Gabriel Sater will perform. On September 10, Orquestra Funmilayo will perform with Xênia França and Luedji Luna. And on September 11 it will be Geraldo Azevedo’s turn.
