The program includes a book fair, debate tables, conversation circles, theater shows, shows and exhibitions. The actions occupy several spaces in the main and annex buildings of the library, in addition to Praça das Artes and Praça Dom José Gaspar.

The institution’s most important event, the festival has been growing in its latest editions, according to the Municipal Department of Culture. In 2023, it brought together more than 35 thousand people in the city center. “The appreciation of the city center, with all its architectural, artistic and human richness and diversity, is one of the festival’s permanent motivations”, informed the secretariat.

Inspiration

The organization emphasizes that surrealism inspires the furniture developed for the event and the scenography, which brings references to the works of Tarsila do Amaral and Leonora Carrington. Furthermore, the new issue of Suplemento Pauliceia – a library publication dedicated to literary texts – will be launched and distributed during the festival.

Avenida São Luís will be closed this Saturday and Sunday throughout the festival. It is for the free movement of the public throughout the region. The book fair exhibitors are spread across the avenue and Praça Dom José Gaspar. In addition to book sales, the fair also hosts a parallel program of chats and autograph sessions, run by publishers. The complete program is at website of the Secretariat of Culture.
