The Federation of Public Health Medical Unions (Fesirmes) of Santa Cruz confirmed that the 48-hour strike, announced for this Monday, December 30 and Tuesday, December 31, is subject to the payment of the November salary, which the Mayor’s Office owes them.

They stated that, In the event that the owed salary is paid this Friday, the pressure measure will be suspended for Monday and Tuesday.

On the other hand, they highlighted that the professionals already signed new contracts this Thursday afternoon. “Respecting labor rights and other aspects, which were observed in the first instance,” they noted.

From the Medical College

For its part, the Santa Cruz Medical College, through a statement, expressed its rejection of municipal contracts for doctors in first and second level health centers.

“It is alarming that these contracts do not guarantee fundamental rights, such as: a fair salary, payment of the bonus, corresponding vacations or other essential benefits. We will not accept blackmail that forces us to sign temporary 11-month contracts, which implies unfairly giving up the twelfth (salary and) bonus under an annual contract. This situation endangers our economic stability and professional dignity. We reject any attempt to impose precarious working conditions that affect our union rights,” the document states.
