President Jair Bolsonaro said today (26) that, when reporting on the shipment of fertilizers from Russia to Brazil, that these inputs guarantee the survival of agribusiness and food security in this and other countries, to which Brazilian production is exported. .
The statement was made during the official opening of the 23rd March to Brasília in Defense of Municipalities. “When I was, a few weeks ago, in Russia dealing with fertilizers, moments before the attack on the neighboring country, we went there to fight for Brazil’s interests, because we will not survive without fertilizers”, said the president.
“Right now, we have 27 Russian ships sailing to Brazil, to bring fertilizer for agribusiness, which is our pride. It is not just for the issue of foreign exchange or for representing a quarter of the GDP [Produto Interno Bruto]but for our food security,” he added.
Bolsonaro said he had received requests from World Trade Organization (WHO) officials for Brazil to increase food exports. The request, according to him, is due to the fact that “the world cannot survive without food from Brazil”. “Our importance to the whole world is the responsibility we have”, he added.
The president recalled that, by giving land titles to settlers, he made partnerships between family farmers and ranchers possible. We transform settlers into citizens, who are next to the farmer, working together. The farmer focused on agribusiness, and this small producer focused on family farming,” he argued.
Freedom of expression
Bolsonaro took advantage of the meeting with mayors, councilors, managers and parliamentarians participating in the march to reiterate criticism of authorities who, according to him, would be acting against the freedom of expression of people who have public life.
“Our freedom is non-negotiable. How many of us are assaulted in the course of our public life? We are sorry, but we have mechanisms to repair this”, said the president, who recently granted a pardon to deputy Daniel Silveira (PSL-RJ), who was sentenced to 8 years and 9 months in prison by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) for the crimes of attempt to impede the free exercise of the Powers and coercion in the course of the process.
“Obviously, we cannot allow any of us who may have certain powers to interfere in the final destiny of our nation, in this greater good of ours which is freedom of expression”, added the president.
