Workers and members of the Ferroatlántica de Venezuela union demand that the company’s parent company, Ferroatlántica de España, provide answers and options for the reactivation of production, since the factory has been paralyzed for almost six years due to the National Electric Company ( Corpoelec) has not assigned the necessary energy quota to activate its ovens.

Those affected have been demonstrating for at least four months in front of the headquarters of the Corporación Venezolana de Guayana in search of the holding companywho still owns 5% of the company’s shares, offered answers to the energy problem that keeps them out of their jobs.

After sending letters, communications and meetings with the Ferroven administration, CVG has finally suggested setting up a mixed commission to find possible solutions to the company’s situation, however, now the workers’ stumbling block is the absence of a authorization by the nuance house, located in Spain, who needs to designate a proxy who can make decisions and negotiate with the state company.

«There is a lack of response from the parent company regarding the stoppage situation of our factory. We are now going on for six years and we are concerned that there has been no sign or positive response. That complicates the situation of the workers”, argued the secretary of Labor and Claims of Sintraferroven, Gustavo Barrios.

Barrios said the commission would be made up of a representative from Ferroven’s board of directors, officials from CVG and Corpoelec. According to the union’s statement, the administration had already tried to contact the headquarters to terminate the members of the commission and start with a reactivation plan, but they have not received answers.

Despite the fact that the parent company continues to pay the payroll and maintains a surveillance team at the company’s headquarters, the employees allege that they do not want to be given a salary, but rather a productive company. In addition, they have requested the integration of more workers to the plant to combat theft and dismantling of equipment.
