Ferroven workers ask the Minister of Industries to look at this company

According to Ferroven management, Corpoelec does not provide the electricity quota required to light at least one of the four furnaces to reactivate production in the company. On the other hand, the brothers Joel and Jean Carlos Tochón also addressed Minister Juan Arias, asking him to intercede for them and to be rehired at Sidor, a company where they worked for years and – they denounced – were forced to resign.

Ferroven workers make a call to the Minister of Industries and National Production, Juan Arias, to turn his gaze to Guayana and attend to the situation of his companies.

In the case of Ferroven, they have been paralyzed for more than five years. Gustavo Barrios, labor and claim secretary of the Ferroven union, pointed out that the directive’s justification is that Corpoelec has not assigned the electric power quota required to activate at least one of the four furnaces.

“Nor do they give us the permit through the ministries that are responsible for the issue of quartz exploitation for us to be able to produce the ferroalloys required for the country’s iron and steel sector,” said Barrios.

The spokesperson for the workers added that: “in addition, we generate foreign currency for the state coffers, quality of life, jobs. We do not understand how Justo Noguera, when he was in charge of CVG and Sidor, bought ferroalloys from the parent company Ferroatlántica de Venezuela, in Spain, to produce in some Sidor plants, and then we see with concern that instead of asking Ferroven to activate us, they generate wealth and jobs for Spaniards».

They also demand that article 91 of the Constitution be applied, given that memorandum 2792 eliminated contractual benefits.

The company currently employs a general services crew made up of supervisors, coordinators and maintenance personnel, as well as “trusted payroll” workers and administrative personnel. These general services people are in charge of green areas, cleaning the substation, changing light bulbs, taking care of clogged pipes, among other maintenance jobs.

146 workers affected

“In meetings with the personnel manager and the project manager, we requested incorporation into our jobs, so that they included us in these tasks, but they say that we wait for a response on the electrical issue and permits to resume production,” explained Barrios.

There are 146 workers affected by the stoppage of the company. Juan Carlos Rojas, organization secretary of the Ferroven union, also called Pedro Perales, from the Central Bolivariana, “so that the private sector includes us, we want us to promote this fight together because we have been paralyzed for almost six years. Workers have left in deplorable conditions with a salary for the floor. We have to put that company into service, to go out and produce. We are aligned with the iron and steel sector, we supply material to the steel complex, to Sidor».

He also hopes that Governor Ángel Marcano will take Ferroven into account to include it in the reactivation plans for companies in Guayana.

Exsidoristas also make a request to the minister

On the other hand, the brothers Joel and Jean Carlos Tochón also addressed Minister Juan Arias, asking him to intercede for them and to be rehired at Sidor, a company where they worked for years and – they denounced – were forced to resign.

Joel Tochón affirmed that the state company applied coercive measures to resign in response to their claims for the miscalculation of profits, vacations and salaries, claims that are a constant in the basic companies of Guayana, reported Caroni Mail.

The date of resignation under duress was September 13, 2020. In addition, for two years they were persecuted and requested for a hearing in a military court, being civilians, whose presentation was on March 25, 2022. In this they were released full, dismissing the alleged crime of assault on the sentinel.

The Tochón brothers advocate that the new Minister of Industries and National Production allow them to return to their jobs, specifically in the railway areas and maintenance in Cold Rolling, where they worked.

This is due to the announcement of the establishment of technical committees to evaluate cases of detained and disincorporated workers from the industries.

Joel Tochón stated that during these two years outside the company they subsist mainly from the sale of belongings, to have a livelihood at home.
