The president of the Broad Front (FA), Ferdinand Pereiraspoke this Friday about the attacks suffered by Robert Silva, president of Codicen, on Thursday after a talk about the educational reform in Cerro.
“The situation raised in the Hill, with the presence of Professor Robert Silva, invites us to reflect,” Pereira began by saying.
He immediately legitimized Silva’s intention to go talk to the public about the educational reform promoted by the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP) and, in the same way, valued the demonstrations.
“On the one hand there are legitimacies that must be assertedAmong them, Robert Silva giving a talk about the reform that he and his government defend and, on the other hand, the possibility that those citizens and groups that have an opposing position can protest, criticize and mobilize,” urged Pereira.
In turn, he rejected and condemned the “violent attitudes” referring to the broken glass in the truck in which the Codicen president was traveling.
“These things cannot happen to us as a society,” Pereira closed.
From the Center for Teaching Students (CEM) they called a protest against the reform promoted by the Codicen. With songs, drums, palms and knocks on the walls and doors of the Cerro Cultural Center -place where the activity took place-, they were heard throughout the meeting.
As Silva commented before leaving the Center, they asked him to wait for his departure “for everyone’s safety” In addition, he commented that several of the protesters entered the talk and took the floor.
However, when the hierarch walked through the crowd to his vehicle, he was followed by the protesters who intensified their chants and clapping. When Silva got into the van, stones were thrown from the crowd that pierced the glass of the premises.
