Visitors to Fernando de Noronha now have to pay a slightly higher amount to enter the archipelago.
The Environmental Preservation Fee went from R$97.16 to R$101.33 for a single day. This 4.2% increase took effect on the first day of the year.
The TPA, as it is also called, is a tax charged to each person who wants to visit the island. The tax has existed for over 30 years and is paid via credit card or bank slip. It can also be done online or directly at Fernando de Noronha airport.
According to the archipelago’s administration, the change in value is provided for by law and takes place every year.
This variation takes into account the accumulated IPCA, the Broad National Consumer Price Index.
The only people exempt are residents, first-degree relatives and workers who are in service.
The tax is progressive to prevent tourists from spending too much time on the island. For example, anyone who stays for 10 days will have to pay more than R$800. But anyone who wants to stay for a month will have to pay more than R$7,000.
In addition, the amount will be charged double when the tourist’s stay is not previously scheduled and authorized.
In the first half of last year alone, the Fernando de Noronha National Marine Park registered the presence of more than 56 thousand visitors.
