The world of science and health is in mourning. This Monday, November 18, the doctor Fernando Carbone passed away. He was Minister of Health from January 21, 2002 to June 29, 2003. During his administration, the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) was created for the benefit of Peruvians in extreme poverty.
Before that he was Vice Minister of Health. Later, he served as an advisor to the Ministerial Office of Health in matters of health management, primary health care and first level of care.
He was a key player in the Health sector during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Carbone, who completed his university studies at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, and postgraduate studies in Barcelona, Spain, was the winner of the 2010 recognition of the Abbot Foundation (Spain) and of First Place among 121 experiences from 22 countries in the 2012 Contest of Healthy Motherhood of the Pan American Health Organization.
It also obtained, with Medicus Mundi, the 2014 Exceptional Institution award from the Carlos SLIM Foundation.
He was awarded the Hipólito Unanue Order in the Degree of Grand Cross in 2011. In addition, he received the Centennial Medal of San Agustin 2019.
He was also a columnist and postgraduate professor in public management, international health, development cooperation, bioethics and biolaw at various universities.
