Senator Fernando Bezerra Coelho (MDB-PE) handed in this Wednesday (15) the position of government leader in the Senate. Pelo Twitter, o senador informou que o pedido foi formalizado ao presidente Jair Bolsonaro a quem agradeceu a confiança no exercício da função.
The decision was taken a day after Bezerra took third place, with just seven votes, in the dispute for a position as minister of the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU). Senator Antonio Anastasia (PSDB-MG) was in first place with 52 votes and senator Kátia Abreu (PP-TO) had 19 votes. Anastasia’s nomination needs to be analyzed by the Chamber of Deputies.
The vacancy at the TCU was left by minister Raimundo Carreiro, who was approved in November for the post of ambassador of Brazil to Portugal. As Carreiro had been nominated by the Senate, the vacancy must be filled by the same origin.
