The collusion of the “revolutionary administration of justice” with these violations will also make up a bulky sample where there will be no shortage of judicial farces, nor ominous silences.

That is why the sanction applied last year to the troubadour Fernando Bécquer by a Havana court did not surprise me and I explained it that way in my article “The Fernando Bécquer case, another chapter of revolutionary justice”, published by Cubanet on October 23. What has surprised me has been the recent turn of events.
The mediocre singer-songwriter was sued by seven women, of the almost 30 who assured the independent media The sneeze have been abused by him. However, the sanction applied by the court was extremely benevolent and once again demonstrated the importance of the political position of Cubans when they are involved in a judicial process.
Despite the testimonies against him, the troubadour stayed at home. The Municipal Court of Centro Habana just imposed a penalty of five years in prison, replaced by the accessory penalty of being subject to surveillance by the bodies and organizations that make up the Commissions for Prevention and Social Care. Faced with this rude exercise of alleged judicial objectivity, the protests on social networks were present and left the Federation of Cuban Women in a very bad light, in a country where machismo and gender violence are only growing.
Then, everything changed before a new exercise of the usual misogyny of the troubadour.
The situation was caused by the singer-songwriter himself when he published his song “Guaracha feminista” on social networks, which immediately received numerous criticisms from the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) and even from Lis Cuesta herself, wife of the imposed president.
Everything indicates that the Cuban authorities did not want to endure another avalanche of protests and ordered the presumed spokeswoman for women on the island to speak out so that they could act later. It is not the same for a dissident “worm” to protest than for the organization created by Vilma Espín to do so.

I imagine the phone calls and the orders to meet immediately and instruct the corresponding court to revoke the kind sanction applied to the troubadour, who must now serve it in a prison.
According to what Cubanet has published, the Cuban authorities have declared that the troubadour violated the conditions that were imposed on him together with the accessory sanction. Cause that was enough for the revocation of the initial “gift”. In other words, continuing to make misogynistic statements is more important than having abused twenty women, some of whom are minors. That easy.
In a country where the truth can no longer be hidden, conspiracies to the detriment of justice have a certain political cost among citizens. So the dictatorship has been forced to act, at least to silence the agitators for a while. In short, Bécquer is a nondescript composer within the rich and vast musical culture of the nation. He bowed his head to receive the crumbs of power, but he went too far and the dictatorship decided to sacrifice the pawn.
Faced with the rejection caused by his latest stupidity and trying to contain the gale that was coming upon him, Bécquer once again assured in his profile that he was a troubadour of “homeland or death”. He will now have the opportunity to prove it.
I am very sure that the command of the penitentiary establishment where he was assigned will use it constantly, and for the record, without compensation. Let’s add that for a detention center it will be an event to have a “first level artist”. Surely he will be required to interpret his songs as soon as a “political-cultural” act is organized. And if he’s good, they might even take him to sing to the bosses at their birthdays and private parties.
Faced with his new reality, perhaps the imprisoned Bécquer will not take long to become a snitch for the guards or lend himself to beating up political prisoners.
But as much as the authorities want to help him, now the singer-songwriter will see with his own eyes what a Cuban prison is. He will know the hygiene conditions, the deficient diet, the lack of medicines and the low quality of medical services. In addition, he must be very careful because the crimes he committed are not very well seen by the prisoners.
Who knows if after this experience he will finally become a significant singer-songwriter, although I doubt it.
