The president of the party Power of the People and former president of the Republic, Leonel Fernandezhighlighted the importance of the recent decision of the Constitutional Court, which declared Law 1-24 that created the National Intelligence Directorate (DNI).
“This decision reaffirms the importance of protecting the rule of law and fundamental rights. We reiterate our commitment to the defense of the Constitution and the interests of the people,” Fernández expressed in a publication on his social networks.
The sentence, identified as TC/076/24, responds to an appeal presented by Fuerza del Pueblo together with other opposition organizations.

According to the rulingthe law was approved without complying with the procedures required for organic regulations, which made it incompatible with the Constitution.
He Constitutional Court He noted in his decision that “regardless of the majority with which it was sanctioned and the matter it dealt with, it was definitely not approved as organic. That was not the legislative treatment it received nor was that the intention of the National Congress”.
Since its promulgation, the Law 1-24 had generated debates in various sectors that considered that its approval put fundamental rights at risk and weakened democratic control mechanisms.
