President Alberto Fernández received the Minister for Equality of the Government of Spain, Irene Montero, at the Casa Rosada, with whom he spoke on the advances in public policies promoted in both countries in terms of gender and diversity.
During the meeting, which continued with a lunch offered by the Head of State, Fernández and the Spanish minister also analyzed the situation in Europe and in Latin America and the Caribbean in terms of guaranteeing the rights of women, lesbians, transvestites, trans and non-binary, it was officially reported.
The president was accompanied by the Legal and Technical Secretary of the Presidency, Vilma Ibarra; the spokeswoman for the Presidency, Gabriela Cerruti, the Minister for Women, Gender and Diversity, Ayelén Mazzina; the Secretary for Equality and Diversity Policies, María Cristina Perceval, and the Spanish Ambassador to Argentina, María Jesús Alonso.
Montero is in the country to participate in the XV Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, organized by ECLAC and UN Women, which began on Tuesday and will continue until this.
The call has as its main theme “The care society as a horizon for a sustainable recovery with gender equality”, and is attended by representatives of governments, United Nations and intergovernmental organizations, academia and civil society, in particular women and feminists.
The conference, which celebrates its 45th anniversary this year, is the United Nations’ premier regional intergovernmental forum on women’s rights and gender equality.
It is organized by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), as the Secretariat of the Conference and, since 2020, in coordination with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). .
