President Alberto Fernández affirmed on Wednesday that the former Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva “is the regional leader that Latin America needs”when sending a video recorded message for the closing of the international meeting of the Puebla Group held at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (Uerj).
“Brazil is going through a unique moment, in a few months it will vote. All the infamy they spread about Lula has been dissipated, all the lies were exposed and, if Lula does well, Latin America has a chancebecause Lula is that regional leader that Latin America needs,” said the President in a message exhibited at the university’s Marielle Franco amphitheater.
The message was broadcast on a giant screen before Lula’s speech, favorite to win the October elections this year, to close the meeting “Democracy and Equalityof the Puebla Group.
Fernández affirmed that “democracy is the only way that peoples have to order their future” and underlined that Latin America is “the most unequal continent in the worldwhere wealth is concentrated in a few and poverty and misery are distributed in millions”.
“New times are definitely opening. It is true that we have just spent a pandemic that took the lives of millions of human beings and made millions of human beings sick and many of us believed that, after that pandemic, the world was going to be another and that even capitalism was going to be revised realizing how useless it is to think about financial speculation and how important it is to think about the productive investment“, he expressed.
And he continued: “However, what I thought did not happen, the only thing that can be verified is that those that were bad turned out to be very bad and those that were good turned out to be very good“.
“We have to continue working so that the very good ones multiply. We cannot live in this inequality,” stressed the President, who emphasized the concentration of the vaccine market in developed countries when the world sought to immunize its populations against the pandemic.
