Fernandez: "It is not right that international prices are applied to the domestic market"

Fernández assured that the government is “working because for us inflation is the biggest problem we have.”

President Alberto Fernández recalling that prices rise in the international market as a result of the war in Ukraine and that this has an effect when “exporting” local productswarned that “it is not right that international prices are applied to the domestic market.”

The president attended a national locro at night at the headquarters of the Buenos Aires PJ, from where he stated that Peronism is with “joy, strength and desire, in a difficult time that we have had to live but where we keep our hopes intact”.

In statements to channel C5N, the President analyzed that there is a “great opportunity” for Argentina because “prices go up and in this way we have the possibility of being able to export wheat, soybeans, meat and corn.”

“It is very good that international prices rise because that supposes that it results in income of dollars that Argentina needs”, said, but warned that “it is not right that international prices are applied to the domestic market.”

“That is the discussion that I have been proposing,” he said, reaffirming that “These problems are solved with retentions, which are an instrument that the economy has to decouple domestic prices from international ones.”

In this sense, the president pointed out that “an increase in withholdings has to pass through Congress, yes or yes”, but he noted that for the time being he prefers to “give this public debate in front of the people” so that they know “who is worried about price increases and who is not.”

“There are those who think that the economy or inflation is linked to the currency and the monetary issueand they think you have to let the market moderate these pricesyes and those who think that The State must intervene to balance internal needs and not make Argentines suffer”he added.

Regarding the problem of inflation, Alberto Fernández assured that the government is “working because for us inflation is the biggest problem we have.”

“Our idea of the economy has three pillars”he explained and stated that “production is going very well, it is growing at a strong rate in terms of acceleration”.

“The second pillar, which is work, continues to increase, We have created more than one million one hundred thousand jobs in the last year. We have unemployment going down,” he continued.

and highlighted “a problem in distribution, which is the third pillar”.

“Inflation complicates salaries that were very devalued at the time of (Marucio) Macri. I always ask all Argentines to remember that between 2003 and 2015 the real salary of Argentines grew by 19% but between 2015 and 2019 it fell by 20 In real terms, when we took over, the salary was worth the same as in 2003. It is a resounding drop, “he concluded.
