Santo Domingo.- Leonel Fernandezformer President of the Republic, (1996-2000. 2004-2012) and leader of the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party, assured this Monday that crime, the high cost of living and unemployment generate anger and overwhelm the population.
Fernández spoke in this way after leading this Monday the first meeting of the Political Directorate of that party in the city of Santiago, where with local and national media, he discussed various topics, having as a central axis the organization of the FP, and the main ones that affect citizens.

“We have had a meeting of the Political Directorate of the People’s Force here in Santiago, as a manifestation of the importance that our party attaches to this province, we have discussed its problems and we have seen the three fundamental concerns that the people of Santiago have today. Santiago in the order of priorities, first delinquency, criminality and violence; secondly, the high cost of living affects a lot, which generates a lot of concern here in Santiago and; thirdly, linked to the economic issue and the high level of unemployment,” said the former president.
He said that “The approval of the zero tariff rate law has also greatly affected the productive sector of this province, which allows the importation of finished goods, which significantly affects the local productive sector, specifically what has to do with livestock, the importation of beef, the poultry sector, the importation of chickens from Brazil; It is something that affects producers from Licey al Medio, and producers from the entire Cibao region.”
Fernández assured that “All this is generating great social disenchantment, an anger on the part of the population, which translates into the search for a new political orientation and is reflected in growing support for the People’s Force.”
The political leader pointed out that the high body of his party agreed to meet in Santiago three times a year, also that the president of the party and other members of the Political Directorate visit more frequently, with the aim of interacting with the leadership and having more frequency in the media, greater links with the productive sectors, with professional nuclei; to understand the dynamics of progress and progress, but also the challenges that this population is facing.
Fernández assured that the FP will continue with its organizational work, and will complete the goal that has been proposed in which 10% of the party’s members will be contributed by Santiago.
He also specified that the meeting of the Political Directorate of the party was very fruitful since it achieved greater cohesion, unity and commitment of the party to win the elections in 2024.
