President Alberto Fernández described this Friday as “historic” the fact that Congress has approved by law the refinancing of the debt with the IMF and pondered that this rule has been sanctioned by “the consensus of legislators from different political forces”, al announce economic measures in a recorded message from the Olivos Residence.

“It has been a historic moment. For the first time the refinancing of a debt with the IMF is discussed and approved in the National Congress. It was a decision of my government that makes me proud: never again will a President be able to go into debt behind the backs of Argentines,” said Fernández.

With that phrase he referred to the approval of the agreement with the credit agency that the Senate sanctioned this Thursday to refinance the debt of 44 billion dollars that the government of Mauricio Macri contracted in 2018.

The president affirmed that it was “a special day because this law was reached with the consensus of different political forces who managed to find points of agreement to respond with democratic responsibility to a situation that required it”.

“The agreement obtained an overwhelming majority in both chambers of Congress. But we got here with the consensus and support of governors, businessmen, unions, organizations and leaders from many social sectors who understood the seriousness of the moment. To all of them, my sincere appreciation”, highlighted the Head of State in one of the sections of his speech.

Fernandez also considered that “Once again, conviction and responsible work have served to overcome the challenges imposed” on Argentina.

The speech delivered tonight by the head of state was in tune with the concepts he formulated this morning in Tucumán, where he advocated the need to “work united and together” for Argentines.

“We are getting out of the problems. First of the debt with private creditors and yesterday we began to resolve the debt with the IMF. Debt that we inherited and that surely if we had been governing we would not have taken”

“There is a time in Argentina that, once and for all, we must inaugurate, which is the time to work together, to work together; we already had too many years to distance ourselves, to fight, to make a difference,” said the head of State, by leading an act on the esplanade of the Government House of Tucumán where agreements were signed for the construction of two city halls and 100 patrol cars were delivered.

Fernández led the act accompanied by the chief of staff, Juan Manzur; the head of the Chamber of Deputies, Sergio Massa; the deputy governor in charge of the Provincial Executive of Tucumán, Osvaldo Jaldo; and the Minister of Security, Aníbal Fernández.

“We are coming out of the problems. First of the debt with the private creditors and yesterday we began to solve the debt with the IMF. Debt that we inherited and that surely if we had been governing we would not have taken. But they are problems that we have to solve”, the President pointed out in his address to the Nation.

Those were the first words of the President after the sanction given yesterday by the Senate to the project that authorizes the National Executive to sign the agreement with the IMF, and which was converted into law with the positive vote of the majority of the ruling party and the bench opponent.
