Fernanda Torres had already been awarded, at the beginning of the month, with the Golden Globe for best actress in the Drama category. This was the first time that the award was given to a Brazilian.
Family tradition
25 years ago, Fernanda Montenegro, mother of Fernanda Torres, competed in the same category for which her daughter was nominated at the 2025 Oscar for her celebrated performance in Central do Brasil, in 1998. She did not win, but the production won the Golden Globe in the Best Foreign Film category.
Both I’m Still Here and Central do Brasil were directed by filmmaker Walter Salles. This year’s Oscar awards ceremony is scheduled for March 2, also in Los Angeles.
