According to Fernanda, women today live conditioned to follow “little boxes” that were prepared like a script. The author highlights the “box” of mother, wife or person responsible for household chores, and the guilt that women end up carrying in life, even if they are not to blame.

In the book If it weren’t for this damn desire for freedomFernanda brings a human narrative about issues that afflict thousands of women in Brazil. Her books are not just fiction, they are mirrors of realities that reveal female challenges in today’s society.

The work delves into the existential crisis of Ilana, a character who embodies statistics from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) that show that 75.7% of divorces in Brazil are initiated by women. The narrative accurately captures the marital dissatisfaction reported by 68% of women in unstable unions, according to the Institute for Applied Economic Research (Ipea), and the 47% growth in demand for couples therapy in recent years, according to data from the Department of Information and IT of the Unified Health System (DataSUS).

Already in Words I saved for my daughterFernanda addresses, with rare delicacy, the complex issue of unfulfilled motherhood, a topic that affects approximately 8 million Brazilian women. The book brings the journey of an infertile mother to meeting her daughter, from before pregnancy to the postpartum period, with healing passages through her memory and ancestry.

Fernanda França de Oliveira is from Sete Lagoas, in Minas Gerais, but is based in Rio de Janeiro. She is a career public servant and has developed several writing skills, having released three individual works and participated in several award-winning anthologies.
