Yesterday, Melissa and her relatives attended the 8th sentencing court made up of judges Angélica Sánchez, José René Quezada and Charlin Tapia, who had set to pass sentence after more than two years of the tragedy.
The judges issued a sentence declaring Luis Fernando Flores Paniagua guilty of femicide, to serve in a psychiatric center in Sucre, not in a prison. The femicide is currently detained in the Palmasola prison, but will have to be transferred to the Pacheco de Sucre center.

Lawyer Angélica Zapata, who defends the victim, regretted the ruling. “That is a mockery, an act of true injustice,” he said. He stated that this Friday the sentence will be read and that an appeal will be filed.
The jurist assured that, during the oral trial, the president of the court showed bias in favor of the femicide and his defense. “That is why we denounced before the Judicial Council. Representatives of the Council came to participate in the trial, however the judges resisted and only allowed them to pass one day. Then they declared reservation of the entire trial. “The worst was when the victim, Melissa, tried to speak and was forbidden, and this is a clear bias, which does not happen with the perpetrator of the crime,” said the lawyer.
Zapata affirmed that, according to the court, the femicide cannot be charged, so although he was sentenced to 15 years, it is to be taken to the Pacheco de Sucre center.
