Femicides prevail; at least 10 women are murdered a day: citizen observatory

The National Citizen Observatory of Femicide (OCNF) reiterated that this crime prevails in the country, since at least 10 women continue to be murdered every day. During the 18th national assembly that was held in person over the weekend, he pointed out that in the two years of the covid-19 pandemic, the various contexts of violence in which women, girls and adolescents live, as well as the absence of an effective structural policy for its prevention, care, punishment, eradication and comprehensive reparation.

But not only that, they said that the violence that exists in each of the states is brutal, and those who make up the OCNF face at a high risk level in retaliation for her work, which is why it is necessary that, as human rights defenders, she be recognized and vindicated, but above all guaranteed in free, safe and protected conditions.

They recalled that, according to the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, in 2021, 3,750 women, girls and adolescents were murdered, of which only one thousand four cases are investigated as femicide and the majority as intentional homicides. They added that in January of this year, 292 women, girls and adolescents were murdered nationwide, of which only 75 are being investigated as femicides.

Regarding the problem of disappearances of women in Mexico, they indicated that according to information from state prosecutors from 19 states, from January to December 2021, 10,032 women, girls and adolescents disappeared, of which 2,281 are still missing, the majority minors.
