During the XXII summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (Alba-TCP) that is being held this Wednesday in Havana, Cuba, the organization appointed the Venezuelan diplomat Félix Plasencia as its new executive secretary.
Plasencia, who was Venezuelan Foreign Minister and until now is the ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic in Colombia, thus replaces the Bolivian Sacha Llorenti, who was appointed to the position on December 14, 2020.
The XXII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian alliance, from this Wednesday, when it is the 18th anniversary of its creation, will address progress and challenges of shared development strategies.
The meeting between Latin-Caribbean leaders, hosted by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, takes place behind closed doors at the Palace of the Revolution, in the Plaza de la Revolución complex in Havana, preceded by the extraordinary session of the National Assembly of the Popular Power of Cuba that commemorated the 18th anniversary of the regional unity mechanism founded in 2004 by commanders Hugo Chávez and Fidel Castro.
The political dialogue intends, according to reports, to evaluate the scope of the agreements signed in the Final Declaration of the XX and XXI Alba-TCP Summit, held on December 14, 2021 and May 27, 2022, respectively.
The XXII Summit of Heads of State and Government is the tenth that Havana receives, after the editions of 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2014, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022.
