A couple of days ago a video was released on social networks, which shows the senator for the Araucanía region, Felipe Kast (Evópoli) driving with a woman by his side while listening to music, before the images gave way to different speculations.
One of them referred to Kast’s marital status, while another of the comments that ignited the networks was that the woman would be Joa Cabañas, a transgender Cuban model.
Faced with the controversy, the senator called it an “unfortunate episode of prejudice and discrimination” in a statement.
Regarding this, the senator published a video on his Twitter where he started by saying that “I must admit that at first I did not think it was necessary to make some kind of statement about this video that has gone viral. Basically because I found that there was nothing in it that it deserved it. But after the level of comments that I have read on social networks, it seemed relevant to share this reflection with you. “
Next, Kast assured that he is separated and appealed to those who commented on the video.
“These are people who have issued comments full of prejudices and accusations towards the woman who accompanies me in the car, even questioning her sexuality. This seems extremely violent in these times and it is surprising that the same people who party and make accusations in this direction, are those who in their profiles on social networks define themselves as defenders of women and sexual diversity,” he emphasized.
In addition, he assured that “I have always worked to end discrimination in this country and it is especially painful to see that some, seeking to obtain a small political advantage, do not respect these codes and do not care about the damage it may cause.”
Finally, he indicated that he hopes that this episode will serve to reflect and “so that in the future we can change our way of relating.”
