Felipe Argote on Crypto Law: ‘It must be legalized, but as a game of chance, that is nothing more than a pyramid’

Some economists have expressed their objection to Law 697, which regulates the commercialization and use of crypto assets, the issuance of digital value, the tokenization of precious metals and other goods, payment systems, and dictates other provisions, and which was approved in third debate on April 28 before the full legislature.

One of those economists is Felipe Argote, who, in his opinion, affirmed this Thursday that the law should be legalized, but as a game. “That must be legalized, but as a game of chance, that is nothing more than a pyramid,” he said.

He expressed that the business of cryptocurrency in Panama is to hold seminars on this and charge people. “There is no operation here that justifies us running our additional risk with the dire situation that exists, only to create a small betting market for a group of people who are convinced that they are the future; they are just commission agents and bringing people” , plot.

Argote specified that this law should not be signed or sanctioned by President Cortizo, “it should be returned, we have serious problems here such as fuel, unemployment and the arguments that they present that the low banking penetration is going to be solved with Bitcoin, this It has nothing to do with it. We have to discuss it, but this is not the time. This has no legal basis and puts us at unnecessary risk with an operation that does not generate enough income.”
