The Human Rights defender, president of the Solidarity Action Civil Association in Venezuela and member of the Civic Forum, Feliciano Reyna, received the Martin Ennals award on Thursday, February 16, in Switzerland, along with two other human rights activists.

Reyna, who previously spoke with the EFE news agency, explained that she achieved this milestone in her career thanks to the support of many people and the participation of an entire movement. She dedicated the award “to the human rights movement in Venezuela, mainly to the young people who enter it, and to the leadership of women, who we consider essential to build the democratic institutions that our country needs.”

He explained that when his work began in Acción Solidaria, he did it so that HIV-positive and AIDS patients could have access to medicine and dignified care, although he later saw that other people were going through similar situations and that is why the Coalition of Organizations for the Rights to Health and Life (Codevida), which he also helped found.
“We gradually became providers of all kinds of services, from treatments to emotional care, due to the current deficiencies in the health system,” says Reyna.

When Reyna was announced as one of the winners of the Martín Ennals Award, the institution highlighted his work through the NGO Acción Solidaria to provide medicine and treatment for Venezuelans with HIV and AIDS; like her work in defense of the rights of the Lgtbiq + community and the Codevida foundation, which promotes the human rights of citizens to health and life through various organizations.
The prize is awarded by a jury made up of members of ten recognized international human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the World Organization Against Torture and the International Commission of Jurists.
The award that Feliciano Reyna received occurs in a context where the National Assembly elected in December 2020 approved at the end of January in its first discussion, the Bill for the Inspection, Regularization, Action and Financing of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Related .
