Done Kite
The film tells the story of Gugu, a 12-year-old boy, who dreams of becoming a great football player.. Raised by his grandmother Dilma (Teca Pereira), a retired teacher who educates him in a free and affectionate way, without worrying about the judgments of the city’s residents. Gugu avoids living with his father, with whom he doesn’t have a good relationship due to his absence.
Grandson and grandmother live close to a dam where, after the water drops due to years of drought, ruins of an ancient city appear. As a result, memories of a traumatic past begin to awaken the first signs of Alzheimer’s in Dilma. Gugu then tries to hide her grandmother’s illness from her father.
For the jury, the film wins for having a vibrant narrative and a multifaceted, confident and fierce young protagonist; and with the often humorous and moving ways in which he addresses his existential questions. The judges also highlighted the interpretation of Yuri Gomes and Teca Pereira.
