National Meat Institute promotes project on good habits and healthy eating

The Alimentando Sueños program of the National Meat Institute (INAC) seeks to inform about the importance and impact of meat consumption, among other foods, on early childhood development. The project presented will be implemented in educational centers, will reach about 10,000 children, and will be led by athlete Deborah Rodríguez, along with a team of athletes and nutritionists.

The activity took place at the INAC headquarters, with the presence of the president of the non-state organization, Conrado Ferber; the director of the Food and Nutritional Security Observatory of the National Food Institute (INDA), María Curuchet; scientists and doctors from the Pereira Rossell hospital, and athletes and nutritionists who will give the talks.

The first edition of Alimentando Sueños is taking place after a successful pilot test, carried out in 2023, which reached some 3,400 children, Ferber explained to Presidential Communication. He estimated that in this instance it is expected to reach some 10,000 children.

Children will receive information based on scientific evidence on the importance of a balanced consumption of meat, the impact of iron and vitamin B12, how to have a balanced diet, and the repercussions that can be caused by not eating properly, said the official. He also appreciated that the project has been widely accepted by educational centers.

“We want children to be able to handle information,” said Ferber, who explained that the teams will be made up of seven nutritionists, who will answer specific questions about nutrition, and five athletes, including Deborah Rodríguez, who will share their personal experiences regarding the link between proper nutrition and performance in their activities.
