Colombian presidential candidate Federico Gutiérrez denounced this Thursday, before the Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS), that armed groups are pressing to direct votes to the candidate Gustavo Petro.
During a conversation with the delegates of the international organization, he indicated that “we are leaving all the records before the electoral observation missions and before the citizens, and what we have to do is shield the democratic process,” assured the candidate of the Team for Colombia.
Likewise, Gutiérrez told international observers that he has already filed the corresponding complaints with the authorities for these events. In addition, he asked to verify what is happening in various regions of the country related to events that would be framed in the crime of constraining the voter by armed groups.
The presidential candidate explained that some of the regions in which this phenomenon has been evidenced, according to the information he has compiled, would be Cauca, Valle, Nariño, Putumayo and Norte de Santander, especially.
The former mayor of Medellín asked the OAS observers to take these complaints into account, in order to prevent illegal armed groups from having an influence in favor of a certain candidate. “They’re already doing it,” he commented.
