Federations are divided over the future of the strike at Petrobras

Federations are divided over the future of the strike at Petrobras

The two main federations that bring together Petrobras workers’ unions do not agree on the continuation of the oil workers’ strike, which entered its ninth day this Tuesday (23). The Single Federation of Oil Workers (FUP) decided to put an end to it, while the National Federation of Oil Workers (FNP) defends the strike.Federations are divided over the future of the strike at Petrobras

The FUP, which represents 105,400 Petrobras workers, reported on Monday night (22) that the entity’s deliberative council approved the indication of acceptance of the counter-proposal presented by Petrobras on Sunday (21) and the suspension of the strike.

The FUP, which represents 14 unions, considers that the strike movement has made progress in its main demands and adds that, among the points agreed with Petrobras, is the guarantee that there will be no punishments for strikers, a 50% bonus for the days stopped and the discount for the rest without consequences or the option for a time bank.

“The strike guaranteed economic, social and structural advances in the Collective Labor Agreement, including payment of bonuses, readjustments in food and meal vouchers, creation of monthly food assistance, reduction of workers’ participation in transportation and travel costs”, describes the FUP, which also lists advances in relation to the health plan.

The FUP informed Agência Brasil that the units that are on strike remain paralyzed until the assemblies that are already taking place are held, according to the calendar of each union.

This Tuesday morning (23), oil workers from the Henrique Lage Refinery (Revap), in the São Paulo city of São José dos Campos, in the Paraíba Valley, approved by 89% of the votes the suspension of the movement.

For continuity

The FNP, which represents 26,000 employees from four unions, considers Petrobras’ concessions to be insufficient. On Tuesday afternoon, a plenary session decided to keep arms crossed.

The general secretary of the FNP, Eduardo Henrique Soares da Costa, informed the Brazil Agency that a new meeting is scheduled for after the 26th.

“We continue to reject it, and the strike remains strong,” he declared.

On social media, the FNP mobilizes part of the category and reminds that “the strikers’ assemblies are sovereign to any deliberation of the unions”.

Claims

The strike affected nine refineries, 28 maritime production platforms, 16 operational terminals, four thermoelectric plants, two biodiesel plants and ten operational onshore facilities.

Among the main demands that led to the strike are:

  • Improvements in the job and salary plan;
  • Solution for Deficit Equating Plans (PEDs) of Petros (category pension fund);
  • Defense of the Brasil Soberano agenda, which defends the maintenance of Petrobras as a public company and a business model aimed at strengthening the state-owned company.

Regarding the issue related to Petros, Petrobras’ executive board sent, on Monday, a letter of commitment to unionspointing out that a solution will require a process that can last 8 months.

Petrobras

Through a note sent to Brazil AgencyPetrobras confirmed that it presented, on Sunday, adjustments to the proposed collective work agreement, “contemplating advances in the main union claims”.

According to the state-owned company, with this measure, the company demonstrates “commitment to understanding with the category and seeks to suspend the strike movement”.

The company reported that the strike had no impact on production, and supply to the market remains guaranteed, without changes. Contingency teams were mobilized where necessary.

“The company respects employees’ right to demonstrate and remains open to dialogue with trade unions”, he concludes.
