The Federales of Chiriquí defeated the Atlánticos of Bocas del Toro and Colón by 7 runs to 4 to sweep the Final Series of the Professional Baseball League of Panama (Probeis) in three games and earn their ticket to represent the country in the Caribbean Series to be held in Caracas, Venezuela starting next February 2.
Los Atlánticos began winning the game with 3 scores in the fourth inning, but the Chiricanos came from behind with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, tied the game with a home run by Ariel Sandoval in the sixth and mounted a 4-score rally. in the seventh inning to secure the win despite Saul Garza’s home run that brought the Atlánticos closer to 7-4 but fell short.
For Jhonny Santos, who was chosen as the MVP of the Probeis season, the important thing now is to continue working hard because the Caribbean Series is coming up “It is a very strong tournament with high-level players from the big leagues, but we are going to do the best we can ”.
Best bats for the Federales were Erick Castillo 3-1 with two RBIs; Iván Herrera 4-2 with a run scored and an RBI; Ariel Sandoval 4-1 with a home run, a run scored, an RBI and Rodrigo Orozco 4-0 with an RBI.
The winning pitcher was Wilfredo Pereira, who worked three full innings as relief, allowed four hits, including a home run, one run, fanned out one and gave no walks.
The players will take a few days off and from Monday they will begin their practices with a view to their participation in the Caribbean Series where they will face Venezuela in their first game on February 2.
For José Mayorga, who became the youngest director to win a championship in the Probeis League, now he has to work to prepare the team for the Caribbean Series “we have to talk with the players who can go, those who cannot go for commitments, see how we strengthen ourselves, know what we have on our roster and continue with the work we have done and that is reflected in Venezuela”.
